- Workin' For MCA **NEW**
- Recorded live in Los Angeles, CA on 11/22/76 or 11/23/76. This show is
generally said to have been recorded on 11/26/73, but according to the tour
schedule in Gene Odom's "Remembering the Freebirds of Southern Rock" book,
they played LA on the 22nd and 23rd. So it's most likely one of these two
dates. Here we have Lynyrd Skynyrd opening up for The Who on their
Quadrophenia Tour (incidentally,
The Who Concert
Guide supports these two dates as well).
- I Ain't The One
**NEW**
- Recorded live in Los Angeles, CA on 11/22/76 or 11/23/76. Bob Burns plays
the intro from the studio version.
- Saturday Night Special *Restored*
- Recorded live in Santa Monica, CA on 5/20/74. This very early and somewhat
longer version of the song features Bob Burns on drums.
- Don't Ask Me No Questions
- Recorded live in Santa Monica, CA on 5/20/74.
- Crossroads
*Restored*
- Recorded live in Santa Monica, CA on 5/20/74. The Robert Johnson tune
(using Cream's arrangement) was a favorite encore song for the band. In fact,
the band played this after Free Bird here and at many other concerts early on.
Much faster than the one on One More From The Road.
- Workin' For MCA
- Recorded live in Hamburg, Germany on 12/5/74 for the Rockaplast TV
program. Complete with Dixie intro.
- Road Fatigue
*Restored*
- Recorded live in Paris, France on 12/9/74. An unfishished song Skynyrd
never recorded for any of their albums. Good tune.
- On The Hunt*Restored*
- Recorded live in Paris, France on 12/9/74. This version was recorded one
month prior to its studio recording for "Nuthin' Fancy". Bob Burns plays the
drums, in what would have to be one of his last concert appearances with the
band.
- Cottonmouth Country *NEW*
- Recorded during the Nuthin' Fancy sessions. Here's the only known
unreleased studio recording by the original Skynyrd. The song is unfinished,
and you can hear an annoyed Ronnie Van Zant yell "Cut" at the end of the song.
Great song that would have fit right in on Nuthin' Fancy.
- Am I Losin'
*Restored*
- Recorded live in Chattanooga, TN on 3/19/75. This one's always been one of
my favorites.
- Made In The Shade
*Restored*
- Recorded live in Chattanooga, TN on 3/19/75. 718 K. The band only played
this song on stage a few times. One of the few examples of an acoustic segment
of a 1970's Skynyrd show.
- Railroad Song
- Recorded live in Chattanooga, TN on 3/19/75.
- Whiskey Rock-A-Roller / I Ain't The One
[ STREAM ] [ DOWNLOAD ]
- Recorded live in St. Petersburg, FL on 3/27/75. "Whiskey Rock-A-Roller"
was the first Skynyrd opening song to seague directly into "I Ain't The One".
Later "Double Trouble" and then "Workin' For MCA" would serve this function.
- I'm A Country Boy
- Recorded live in St. Petersburg, FL on 3/27/75.
- Call Me The Breeze *Restored*
- Recorded live at the Winterland in San Francisco, CA on 4/27/75. Billy
Powell was absent from this show, so the band had to find a substitute for his
piano part in Call Me The Breeze. Lee Freeman, who had played with Ed King in
Strawberry Alarm Clock and would later play on Gimme Back My Bullets
, blows the harp.
- Sweet Home Alabama
**NEW**
- Recorded live at the Winterland in San Francisco, CA on 4/27/75. This song
sounds a lot different without Billy Powell.
- I Got The Same Old Blues
- Recorded live in Boston, MA on 6/8/75. Probably one of the first
performances of this song. Ed King left the band around May 27th. This was
only their 7th performance without him.
- Free Bird (with Barry Harwood)*Restored*
- Recorded live in Frankfurt, Germany on 10/22/75. Barry Harwood has a
beautiful solo after Billy's piano solo here, making this version very unique.
This is the complete version, all 13 minutes.
- Saturday Night Special
- Recorded live in London, England on 10/27/75. Ronnie changes his adlib
from dollars to pounds.
- Searching
- Recorded live in Bristol, England on 2/10/76.
- Tuesday's Gone
- Recorded live in Bristol, England on 2/10/76. This was Skynyrd's first gig
with the Honkettes.
- Tuesday's Gone
- Recorded live at the Winterland in San Francisco, CA on 3/3/76. Beautiful
version of a song that was not played live very often. The Honkettes sound
great as usual.
- T For Texas
- Recorded live at the Winterland in San Francisco, CA on 3/3/76. Still a
few months before Steve Gaines would join the band, Skynyrd is joined by
Hughie Thomasson and Billy Jones of the Outlaws (Skynyrd's opening act).
Hughie would join the band as a member roughly twenty years later. Here's the
order of the solos: Gary, Hughie, Billy Jones, Allen, Billy Powell.
- Double Trouble / I Ain't The One
- Recorded live in Philadelphia, PA on 4/16/76.
- Gimme Back My Bullets
- Recorded live in Philadelphia, PA on 4/16/76.
- Cry For The Badman
- Recorded live in Philadelphia, PA on 4/16/76.
- Searching
- Recorded live in Philadelphia, PA on 4/16/76.
- T For Texas
- Recorded live in Philadelphia, PA on 4/16/76. Outlaws and future Lynyrd
Skynyrd member Hughie Thomasson again joins the band for T For Texas, this
time without Billy Jones. A Collins/Rossington/Thomasson guitar lineup would
have been interesting.
- Free Bird
- Recorded live in Philadelphia, PA on 4/16/76.
- Living Room Rehearsals
- Recorded in Leon Wilkeson's living room in 1976. Steve Gaines had just
joined the band, and this recording features Steve working on some of his
licks with Allen Collins. Steve and Allen do some bits from Workin' For MCA,
Sweet Home Alabama, Double Trouble, Simple Man, and a more or less complete
Searching. Some fascinating stuff here.
- That Smell
- Recorded live in Osaka, Japan on 1/18/77. The song was just beginning to
take shape here.
- Travelin' Man**NEW**
- Recorded live in Osaka, Japan on 1/18/77. A rare outing for Leon's song.
- Ain't No Good Life *Restored*
- Recorded live in Osaka, Japan on 1/18/77. Steve Gaines on vocals of
course, and he does a nice job. Notice that the Honkettes sing backup, which
they would not do on the Street Survivors recording.
- Whiskey Rock A Roller
- Recorded live in Tokyo, Japan on 1/21/77.
- T For Texas
- Recorded live in Tokyo, Japan on 1/21/77.
- Whiskey Rock-A-Roller
- Recorded live in Manchester, England on 2/4/77. Gary screws up and plays
the intro to That Smell while the rest of the band launches into Whiskey
Rock-A-Roller. Billy hears this and stops playing as well. They manage to get
it together and do a pretty respectable version of the song.
- T For Texas
- Recorded live in Manchester, England on 2/4/77. Steve Gaines tears it up
as usual on this one.
- That Smell (Soundcheck)*Restored*
- Recorded at a pre-show soundcheck in Sheffield, England on 2/5/77.
Features Steve Gaines on vocals! Ronnie preferred not to do soundchecks
in fear of hurting his voice. Steve does a great job singing here.
- Haunted House (Soundcheck)
- Recorded at the 2/5/77 soundcheck in Sheffield, England. This oldie was
originally recorded in 1964 by Jumpin' Gene Simmons (not the Kiss bassist). A
nice little jam. Steve is on vocals yet again.
- Crossroads
- Recorded live in Sheffield, England on 2/5/77.
- What's Your Name
- Recorded live in Buffalo, NY on 6/19/77. The quality here is horrible but
this is the only live 1977 version of this song I've come across besides the
offically released one from Asbury Park.
- You Got That Right
*Restored*
- Recorded live in Asbury Park, NJ on 7/13/77. The only known live recording
of this song by the original band. This show was also filmed, but most of the
film is apparently missing.
- Saturday Night Special
- Recorded live in Asbury Park, NJ on 7/13/77.
- Gimme Three Steps
- Recorded live in Asbury Park, NJ on 7/13/77.
- Call Me The Breeze
- Recorded live in Asbury Park, NJ on 7/13/77.
- Free Bird
*Restored*
- Recorded live in Asbury Park, NJ on 7/13/77. The last song from the last
known recording of the original band in concert. Rumor has it that a complete
recording of one of the "Tour Of The Survivors" shows from the week before the
plane crash exists, but it hasn't turned up so far. After this concert, the
band would only play 8 more shows.
