Cassie Gaines
1948-1977

Cassie Gaines was one of the beautiful members of
the "Honkettes", famous back-up singers for Lynyrd Skynyrd during
the ideallic period before the tragic plane crash that changed Lynyrd Skynyrd
forever.
Cassie was a Memphis State graduate who had done session work before landing the
big job with Lynyrd Skynyrd with her torrid voiced singing abilities.
Cassie was also the sister of Steve Gaines,
the talented and energetic guitarist who joined Lynyrd Skynyrd after Cassie made
arrangements for him to jam with Skynyrd at a Kansas City concert - to be doing
the classic song, "T For Texas".
Cassie Gaines was one more of the tragic victims of that plane crash that
changed forever the course and lives of the surviving members of Lynyrd Skynyrd.
For the family of Cassie and Steve Gaines, I cannot imagine the horror of that
day in October 1977 when they lost these
two "very special members" of their family at ONE TIME.
