Eagle Tears - ©2002 Jody Willman

She went to her knees that day, but she wasn't knocked there.
She had only kneeled to pray, for all her people everywhere.
Crying tears of great sorrow, for the futures that were lost.
She rose again on the morrow, vowing justice at any cost.

The eleventh day of September, the day we faced our fears,
A day the world will remember, as the Eagle shed her tears.
Suddenly out of the ashes rose, great heroes by the score.
And even as the ill wind blows, freedom rings once more.

A sleeping giant has awakenend; to unwanted war and grief.
Her pride had not been taken, by this dark and deadly thief.
Much to the evil ones surprise, he missed the desired effect,
Tears of rage fill the Eagles eyes, she now stands full erect.

Thousands of her children died, in this most demonic way.
Yet millions more show there pride, it's stronger everyday.
Stars and Bars, Red, White and Blue, a nations battle cry.
Osama bin laden, she hunts for you,and you're bound to die.

Now the eyes of the Eagle are clear, and her mission is known.
The end of terrorism grows near, for now the Eagle has flown,
Into a land of misguided souls, whose leaders cower and hide.
Still assuming leadership roles, after all their martyrs have died.

Most of the world is now united, all sworn to end this evil threat.
As for countries left undecided, don't let it be something to regret.
United airlines flight ninety three, will be talked about for years,
How all Americans will stay free, because an Eagle shed her tears.

Skynyrd may sit on the Bush side of the fence when it comes to politics, and the band still holds what happened on September 11, 2001 very close to them.

Skynyrd vocalist Johnny Van Zant remembers what he was doing when the terrorist struck and collapsed the twin towers in New York City and attacked the Pentagon in Washington, DC.
