My Tribute to Ronnie by Fanzant (Maria)

The world had a writer who wrote songs so true,
He wrote songs for the common man, for me and for you,
He wrote songs of wisdom and he wrote songs of pain,
He wrote about life and about a hobo on a train.

He made us think about the important things of life,
About the joy it can bring, about the things that cause strife.
He helped us create our own lifes plan,
To live life to the fullest, but remain a "Simple Man".

He had a great talent to share with us here.
He never wrote on paper the thoughts he held dear.
He would sing out the words with feeling each time.
To an audience mesmerized by the meaning of his rhyme.

He stalked every performance, no shoes on his feet.
Always wanting to feel the stages' burning heat.
He knew how to give his fans their due,
He gave words of comfort when life made us blue.

He knew how to get the best out of his band,
Hours at "Hell House" was his firm demand!
Ronnie never settled on anything less than their best,
With talented musicians he truly was blessed!

He may not have always abided by the rules
But whenever in a jam he relied on his "mules".
By his words he taught us much about life we can use,
Also about the "finest picker to ever play the blues".

Though not a large man he towered over his band,
'Til one fateful night he flew to another land.
"Freebird" he is called now, along with the rest.
His hard work paid off as his fans will attest.

So here's to you Ronnie we miss you each day,
For the life-lessons you taught us, we would gladly repay.
If only you were here to sing one last song,
To hear all of your fans singing along.

We were priviledged to have you even for a little while,
The sound of your voice always brings us a smile.
Every concert is a tribute to the songs that you wrote,
Each life that you touched, with the words and the notes.

I think you would realize what you mean to us now,
How sorry we are that you took your last bow,
Before we were ready to let you go.
The Lord called you home, yet this much we know,

Your influence remains after all these years,
Songs written about life, its joys and its tears.
We will never forget you, nor let your memory die,
We will leave you to the Heavens where Freebirds do fly.
